Valve quietly updates Half life 2 with increased FOV, ultrawide support and ancient bug fixes
Half-Aliveness 2 has seen a few small, small fry updates over the days. But in forward motion of Valve's new handheld Microcomputer, the company has spruced up their seminal shooter with a major beta update to guarantee IT looks as fluid every bit possible on not just the Steamer Deck, but all early coeval PCs.
While not publicly announced on the game's fund foliate, the update to Half-Life 2's beta fork was spotted by Valve-centric YouTuber Tyler McVicker. The update purportedly includes numerous hemipteran-fixes that have got sat undecided for years, increases the FOV ceiling to 110, and adjusts the UI to support ultrawide resolutions.
Perhaps the most notable (if less flashy) additions, however, is support for the Vulkan rendering API, which pointedly plays much nicer with Linux-based operating systems look-alike SteamOS. Valve brought Vulkan indorse to Portal 2 back in February, and with the Uncomplete-Life 2 games now on-board, McVicker in real time reckons we lav expect most of Valve's back-catalogue to be updated to run well on the Steamer Deck.
Compatibility has been a major business organisation some for customers and Steam itself, with Valve recently beginning efforts to catalogue the entire weapons platform for compatibility. While most games won't run on Linux, Valve has been practical to ensure its Proton compatibility layer supports as many Windows games as possible. An early result saw games with Easy Anti-Cheat struggle to run around with Proton, an issue that was remedied with an update last calendar month.
Half life 2's beta update isn't quite waiting to go live. McVicker notes that on that point's a micro-stuttering issue with the current anatomy, though you can download it yourself by selecting the Beta check below Uncomplete-Life 2's properties in your Steam library. Hopefully, the landmark FPS testament make for a great showpiece by the time Steam Decks start shipping in December.
